2nd Day of March Craziness
They have their March Madness, I have my crazy days of March. I think it is zaney how many events are celebrated on the calendar, but I am going to do my best to celebrate them this month anyway.

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day--have a sandwich, of course. Use the peanut butter left over from Yesterday--peanut butter day. And why isn't that celebrated on January 5th? January 5, 1943 is the day that George Washington Carver entered eternal life. (Birthdate unknown, about 1864 or 1865). At least his invention gets an honorable mention two days running. A twofer. You could also celebrate this by moving to Georgia and growing peanuts and grapes.
National Frozen Food Day--do we really need to increase the awareness of frozen food? Celebrate by thawing something for dinner. No, not that. We had that last week. No, not that; we had it yesterday--okay then, the day before yesterday. Never mind. I'll just make myself a peanut butter sandwich and slosh it down with a Tibetan beer, because it is also...
Losar, the Tibetan new year/beer drinking day--(only seven months until Octoberfest!) But, beer in ancient Tibet? Who knew? Alright I meant who knew except the Tibetans? Well, alright, the Tibetans and the exporters. Moving on.
Old Stuff Day--Who you callin' 'old stuff'? It is celebrated by giving up old stuff and trying something new. Why not new stuff day? I don't know, I didn't name it. So try new stuff, like maybe some new frozen food.
Read Across America Day (in honor of Dr. Seuss)--When it falls on a weekend it is celebrated on the following Monday, but if you want to read something today I don't think it will get you into any kind of trouble. Read something new.
Dr. Seuss Day (his birthday)--Two celebrations for the same guy on the same day. Another twofer. Someone didn't get the second memo. There were competing fan clubs who couldn't agree. They gave the task of naming the Dr. Seuss celebration to both Thing One and Thing Two. Someone got loopy on green eggs and ham. The Grinch also stole the first Seuss holiday, so they made a new one, but then the Grinch's heart got bigger so he brought the first holiday back leaving them with two celebrations on the same day. Starting day of the Iditarod--This is a dog-sled race in Alaska. Sometimes it gets so cold there that the calendar freezes up and gets sluggish for weeks at a time, and may sometimes even stop altogether. I'm in Wisconsin. It gets cold here. If you go up to Minnesota, it gets even colder. Want colder than that? Try North Dakota. Go up to Canada and you'll find out why Babe the Blue Ox moved south. But, Alaska is the king of cold, in fact it is so cold there--just how cold is it?--it's so cold that they have to thaw out their snow before they can shovel it. It's so cold that their snow men migrate south for the winter. It's so cold that when they go ice fishing they come back with real ice. It's so cold that they gather around a stack of ice cubes to warm up. It's so cold they have cold stored up from last year that they haven't even used yet. I guess they keep it in cold storage. No wonder the race takes two weeks. Did you know they invented frozen food there, by the way? Another twofer.
Daughters' and Sons' Day--It was only a matter of time. Everyone else in the family has their own day. But, why do they have to share? Why not a daughters' day and a sons' day? Because this is the second of March and calls for another twofer, that's why. The third of March will probably focus on the triumverates.
Namesake Day--This had to be on the same day as Daughters' and Sons' Day, because you know how much kids love to share! Especially hand-me-downs. Your folks have a nice little party for you and guess who comes to celebrate? The one you are named after! Of course! It is probably your dad or grandad, or uncle or family-best-friend. Someone like that. Then they can tell you, again, "Hey you were named after me. You got my name!" And then you get to show gratitude to someone else for sharing their name as though you owe them something for being referenced by the same set of phonemes. Actually, you were just made the second half of another twofer.
March 2nd, 2014 - Texas Independence Day--Wahoo Texas!!! Any place brave enough to invent deep-fried butter and serve it with Lone Star Beer is A-okay in my book! Used to spend my summers in Ft. Worth. Still wear boots.
